diubengali : "দিউঃ-দিউ একটা খুব শান্ত ও আকর্ষণীয় দ্বীপ যা ১৫৩৫ থেকে ১৯৬১ সাল অব্দি পর্তুগীজদের অধিকারে ছিল। রয়েছে সুন্দর সুন্দর সমুদ্র সৈকত, চার্চ, বিস্ময়কর ফোর্ট, চিত্তাকর্ষক পর্তুগীজ নামকরণ করা রাস্তা ও টাটকা সামুদ্রিক মাছের সুস্বাদু রান্না। চণ্ডীগড়, দাদরা ও নগর হাভেলি, লাক্ষাদ্বীপ, পণ্ডিচেরি, আন্দামান ও নিকোবর এবং দমনের মতো বর্তমানে এটাও একটা ইউনিয়ন টেরিটরি, ও পর্তুগীজ উপনিবেশ ছিল। দিউ কিন্তু গুজরাটের অংশ নয়। দিউ মূল ভূখণ্ডের সঙ্গে একটা সরু খাল দিয়ে বিভক্ত। উত্তরদিকে রয়েছে গুজরাটের ভূখণ্ড ও দক্ষিণদিকে রয়েছে, চুনাপাথরের ক্লিফ, ছোট ছোট খাঁড়ি ও সুন্দর বালির বীচ। এই দ্বীপ স্বাধীন হয় ১৯৬১ সালের ১৯ ডিসেম্বর, যখন ভারতীয় সেনাবাহিনীর টানা আটচল্লিশ ঘণ্টার নৌ, বিমান ও স্থল আক্রমণে করে ও পর্তুগীজ সেনারা আত্মসমর্পণ করে। ইতিহাস–দিউ আগে গুজরাটের সৌরাষ্ট্র প্রদেশের অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিল ও আরব সাগরের ওপর একটা অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পোর্ট ছিল। সপ্তম শতাব্দীতে দিউয়ে প্রথম পা রাখেন পারস্য থেকে পালিয়ে আসা কিছু পার্সি। এর স্ট্র্যাটিজিক অবস্থানের জন্যে, ১৫০৯ সালে গুজরাটের সুলতান মামুদ বেগারহা ও অন্যান্য বিদেশী শক্তি একজোটে পর্তুগীজদের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করে। ১৫১৩ সালে পর্তুগীজরা একটা ছোট সেনা ছাউনি তৈরি করতে চায়, কিন্তু অন্যান্য বিদেশী শক্তির বিরোধিতায় তা করা সম্ভব হয়নি। ১৫৩৫ সালে গুজরাটের সুলতান বাহাদুর শাহ, মুঘল সম্রাট হুমায়ুনের আক্রমণ প্রতিহত করার জন্যে পর্তুগীজদের সঙ্গে এক মৈত্রী চুক্তি করেন, ও দিউ ফোর্ট তৈরি করার অনুমতি দেন। অচিরেই সেই মৈত্রী চুক্তি ভেঙ্গে যায় ও বাহাদুর শাহ তখন অনুতাপ করতে থাকে তার কৃতকর্মের জন্য। শাহ আবার ১৫৩৭ ও ১৫৪৬ সালে দিউ আক্রমণ করেন কিন্তু তা অসফল হয় ও তিনি পর্তুগীজদের দ্বারা নিহত হন। পরবর্তীকালে দিউয়ের ওপর অনেক আক্রমণ হয়, তবে তা সবই পর্তুগীজ প্রতিরোধের মুখে বিফল হয়। অসম্পূর্ণ ফোর্টটাকে জাও-ডি-ক্যাস্ট্রোর নেতৃত্বে সম্পূর্ণ করা হয়, ও তা পরবর্তীকালে আরব ও ডাচেদের আক্রমণ প্রতিহত করে। কিন্তু ১৯৬১ সালের ১৯ ডিসেম্বর ভারতীয় সেনাবাহিনীর টানা ৪৮ ঘণ্টার নৌ, বিমান ও স্থল আক্রমণে পর্তুগীজ সেনারা আত্মসমর্পণ করতে বাধ্য হয় ও দিউ ভারতের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়। "+

diuenglish : "Diu:-Diu is a very quiet and attractive island which was in the possession of the Portuguese from 1535 to 1961. There are beautiful beaches, churches, wonderful forts, impressive Portuguese named streets and delicious cooking of fresh sea fish. Like Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Lakshadweep, Pondicherry, Andaman and Nicobar and Daman, it is now a Union Territory, and a Portuguese colony. Diu is not part of Gujarat. Diu is divided by a narrow canal with the mainland. To the north is the territory of Gujarat and to the south are limestone cliffs, small creeks and beautiful sand beaches. The island became independent on 19 December 1961, when the Indian Army launched a 48-hour continuous naval, air and ground attack and the Portuguese surrendered.History:-Diu was formerly part of the Saurashtra province of Gujarat and was one of the most important ports on the Arabian Sea. Some Persians who fled Persia first set foot in Diu in the seventh century. Due to its strategic position, in 1509 Sultan Mamud Begarha of Gujarat and other foreign powers fought a united battle with the Portuguese. In 1513, the Portuguese wanted to build a small army barrack, but this was not possible due to opposition from other foreign powers. In 1535, Sultan Bahadur Shah of Gujarat made an alliance with the Portuguese to repel the invasion of the Mughal Emperor Humayun, and allowed the construction of Diu Fort. Soon the treaty was broken and Bahadur Shah began to repent for what he had done. Shah again attacked Diu in 1537 and 1546 but failed and was killed by the Portuguese. There were many attacks on Diu later, but all of them failed in the face of Portuguese resistance. The unfinished fort was completed under the leadership of Jao-de-Castro, who later repulsed Arab and Dutch attacks. But on 19 December 1961, after 48 hours of continuous naval, air and ground attacks by the Indian Army, the Portuguese troops were forced to surrender and Diu became part of India. "+
